Bangkok Shutdown

When I heard the protests in Bangkok were bringing thousands into the streets, a compelling sense of urgency prompted me to ask my friends and family on Facebook if anyone had connections. A friend made on a previous trip to Haiti had moved to Bangkok and graciously opened her home to me. My desire to document the Thai people's struggle against corruption in the government brought me into contact with passionate people and educated me on the current situation. The Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra is the sister of Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister ousted in the 2010 protests that turned violent. My time in Bangkok proved to me that the Thai people are passionate about Democracy and the ability to pick the leaders that govern them. They are asking for a reform of the political system before the scheduled election of February 2, 2014.
